Steve Popovich age 83 of the Tellico Community, Loudon, TN passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2024.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Popovich, parents Alec and Anna Popovich and brothers Chuck, Mike, John and George Popovich and sisters Helen Popovich, Ellen Popovich, Ann Dalsky, Mary Ree and Polly Cegler.
Survivors include daughter Gidget Wagner (Mike) and granddaughter Lauren of Ca.; Stepson Heath Bernston; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Steve was born in Mellen, WI on October 11, 1941. He graduated from Mellen High School and enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Lemoore, CA. Steve pursued a career with the FAA serving as an instructor in radar and computers, project engineer for the Western Region, Managed a Long Range radar and System engineer at the Leesburg, VA ARTCC.
Steve and Sherry retired to Tellico Village in 2000. Steve was an avid golfer and member of the MGA winning Player of the Year Twice, and Member Guest in 2019. He also was on Computer support for the Tellico Village Computer Club. Steve was a Green Bay Packer fan and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City, TN. Steve was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he also served as Grand Knight and District Deputy.
A Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City, TN on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
Burial with military honors will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alzeheimers.org.
