Steven John Stier was born on September 16, 1964, in Elbow Lake, MN to Dean Stier and Barbara (Mithun) Stier-Aal of Chokio, MN. Steven grew up in the mighty town of Chokio where he spent his youth bopping around with his brothers, Mark, Matthew, Patrick, and Bradley, and being the papa-bear big brother to his baby 'sis', Lisa.
Steven won his gold trophy upon meeting and marrying the apple of his eye, Mary Jo, and moved to Onida, SD, where they spent the last 35 years building a love story like none other. Their love story was expanded to greater heights, bringing their beloved children, Michael "Gooser" and Katherine "Girly" into their story. The couple spent their days serving the community of Onida and their beloved country through various acts of service, including Onida Fire Department, the 200th Engineer Company, and the American Legion. Steven was known to many for different purposes: a coach, a friend, a mentor, a father figure. He was known to all as the kindest goofball in the world. Steven spent his days dedicated to making the world a better place, whether it be by serving his country and his community, providing smiles, hugs, and laughs, or by acts of service, kindness, and rhubarb jelly. Steven improved the livelihood of all who were in his presence.
Steven was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Dean Stier, brother Bradley Stier, grandmother Anna Stier, and grandparents Sara and Odin Mithun. He is survived by his beautiful wife Mary Jo, son Michael (Courtney) Stier, and daughter Katherine Stier (Connor), along with his beautiful foster grandchildren and step grandchildren, whom he adored with his whole heart. Steven is also survived by his mother Barbara, brothers Mark (Lynn), Matthew (Melanie), Patrick (Alli), and baby sister Lisa (Dustin), along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends whom he loved dearly.
