ROCKFORD, IL ~ Steven “Dewey” W. Abney, 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 in Rockford, IL. He was born July 26, 1958, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, IL, the son of Kenneth R. Abney Jr. and Lorraine F. Dolan. Steve was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved to fish, hunt and just spend time outdoors. He always had a project going, whether it was making Cherry Bounce or renovating and tinkering around the house. He found joy in watching the Packers while enjoying hotdogs and Cheetos. Steve was a family man above all else. He was always willing to offer help to his family and friends. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many. He is survived by his loving girlfriend of many years Crystal Rowe, her dog Elsa; daughter Erika (Paul) Powers; sisters Vickie (Jim) Simpson; Kendra (Greg) Troglin; Kena Long; grandchildren Joslynn, Max, Teagan, Owen; nieces Sonny (Aaron) Asbury and children Samantha, Ethan, Grant (Amia); Stacey (Greg Bertlozzi) Good and children Macie (Dylan), Kayden, Ashton, Jax, Hadley; and Stephanie (Bree) Simpson. He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth R. (Jo F.) Abney, Mother Lorraine F. Dolan, grandparents, Aunt Yolanda (Stanely) Weisensal, and dogs/sons Gunner & Shooter.
A visitation has been scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025, between the hours of 11:00 am & 1:00 am at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of Byron, IL. Funeral services have been scheduled immediately following the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor Molly Bowen presiding at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of Byron, IL. Steven will then be laid to rest near his mother, Lorraine, at Byron Township Cemetery of Byron, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established in his name and may be directed to the family.
