Steven Antonellis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell-Davis Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. - Main Office on Jan. 4, 2025.
Steven James Antonellis, 63, of Rocky Nook, Kingston, MA (formerly of Duxbury, MA) died begrudgingly after a long 22 year battle with MS on January 2, 2025.
Steve was born in Hackensack, NJ to Dr. Joseph Antonellis and Rita (D'errico) Antonellis on January 7, 1961. He was the middle child of 5 and had a lovely childhood growing up between NJ, Hanover, Norwell, Sarasota, and Duxbury. He had strong ties to New England and throughout his time in Florida, he always wanted to move back North. Luckily, in 1978 his father relocated his dental practice to Sandwich and moved the family to Duxbury where he graduated with the class of 1979. In his brief time at Duxbury Schools he was the president of the National Honor Society, played the tuba in band, was a local photographer, and was in the local Thespian troupe (he was the Wizard in the Wizard of Oz). He made many lifelong friends including his loving wife, and best friend, Anne (Carmody) who he was married to for over 40 years.
A 1984 graduate of the University of MA. Amherst with a degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Management, Steve went on to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York. Anne and Steve had many happy memories of their time as newlyweds in Upstate NY, but the call back to New England was too strong and they moved back to the South Shore to Carver where they welcomed 2 daughters and made many more life long friends.
In his free time, Steve was always tinkering to make things better. From home improvement projects to designing tree houses, zip lines, and rope swings for the kids, he never sat still. We all remember him walking around the backyard shirt off, aviators on, and a towel around his neck. From family BBQs, pool parties, skating on the pool in the winter (just once!), walks around the neighborhood, Christmas caroling that turned into Christmas parties, etc., there was always something going on at the Antonellis' and Steve welcomed anything that Anne threw at him.
Steve would love to go for Sunday drives after Church or a "gypsy" weekend where the family would explore the area, often finding some cozy hideaway, and possibly find a place to stay overnight. Sometimes there would be a great song on the radio and sing-a-longs to Billy Joel, American Pie, and many more classic artists would ensue.
In 1999 luck would have it and an opportunity to move their family back home to Duxbury arose. Anne and Steve took it. The house needed a lot of work and Steve successfully gutted the entire house (over many years) and created a home that became his masterpiece. He loved to give tours of every room and show off the small details he curated, like the beams in the master bedroom from the old Charles Street Jail. Pool parties were replaced with epic July 4th parade parties on the front lawn and more friends were added to the family as Steve became an integral part of the community.
Steve loved to travel and have family vacations. Disney World while visiting Steve's parents in Orlando happened almost yearly as well as visiting his siblings around Florida. He loved staying up late talking to his siblings and reminiscing on good times or having thought provoking conversations.
Steve had many careers and vocations - a carpenter, an engineer, an inventor, a businessman, a writer, and much more. Never one to miss a good opportunity, he cooked and delivered pizza to drunk kids in college. As an industrial engineer he ran a perfume plant, Pharmasol, as President. (His kids loved visiting the factory and getting samples of Bath and Body Works and Gap perfume in the 1990s!) He also worked in Calgary, Canada with Sembiosys within the cosmetic industry. He worked as a General Contractor for a few years, before starting atechnology company where he was one of the first pioneers within GPS and food delivery.
Steve was an accomplished singer and was an active member of local church choirs at Our Lady of Lourdes and Holy Family. His rendition of Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" was a treasure. He was a very active member at both Parishes and a practicing Catholic. He was a deep thinker and loved to write. He often contemplated life and his relationship with God, which led him to author a book titled, 'God Whispers'.
Steve was diagnosed with a progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2003, but he was never a victim of his own circumstance. He progressively lost his ability to move and be independent, but he never lost his mind, his humor, or his passion to help. He knew he was capable, just not in a traditional sense from helping a neighborhood boy build a robot, engineering a trolley for the 1-ton Global Pandemic Bereavement Stone, making videos to teach new homeowners how to fix up their homes, to using technology to access construction sites when he couldn't. He used his business acumen to help friends with resumes, accounting, and business plans, and was often seen as a mentor by those closest to him.
Steve suffered from his disease, but he would never let you know it. Through it all he was so positive, always searching for what he could do. He actively practiced acceptance and loved his life. He was just happy to be here, around his friends and family, and he didn't want to leave.
A great husband, Dad, and "Grandaddy", Steve is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Anne, his daughter Danielle Antonellis of Cape Town, South Africa, his daughter Christine Resendes and her husband Brian of Duxbury, MA and his two Granddaughters, Charlotte and Zoe Resendes, who were the lights of his life.
He is also survived by his brother Gary and his wife Fran, sister Janet Maglich and her husband Rick, brother Bob Antonellis, sister Kathy Green and her husband Rob, brother in law Robert Carmody and his wife Margaret, and brother in law Teddy Moneghan and his wife Cheryl, Goddaughter Nicole Maglich, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He also had a special friendship with Dan McLaughlin who was the best friend anyone could ask for. Thank you for indulging his ideas, inventions, and allowing him to create when his physical ability was taken. He treasured his time with you.
The Antonellis Family would like to thank the many caretakers who took care of Steve and loved him over the years: Jill, Steve, Sharon, Sheila, Mary Anne, Keiya, Debbie, John Moniz, Laura, Toni and more.
There are many many friends that have become family to Steve - "Framily". You all had a special place in his heart and your friendship was very important to him. Thank you for all of the good times watching field hockey and softball games, playing scrabble, having deep conversations, drinking cosmos, burns on the beach, and many more moments.
