Steven Armstrong Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brenner Mortuary Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 9, 2025.
Steven Lynn Armstrong, 68, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2025, at his home.

He was born June 8, 1957, at Coos Bay, Oregon, to Robert Lee and Carrie Marie (Bell) Armstrong. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1975.

He married Karen Hoffman. They later divorced. Steve was then united in marriage to Susie (Strickland) Ferguson on May 27, 1984, in the Timmons Chapel in Pittsburg.

Steve worked for Perfection Forms/Print Excel, where he was a Journeyman Press Operator/Printer for 27 years. After he retired, he started his own handyman business, doing small home repairs. He was an avid Outdoorsman; from the time he was just a young boy. He broke and trained horses and was a Bull rider until he got married. He worked as an electrician for Swartz Electric and was a Fireman. Steve was an auctioneer, which he never forgot how to do the auctioneer chant. His love for the outdoors, led him to training bird dogs, guiding field trials and wild bird hunts from Western Kansas to Ames, Georgia. He was also an avid fisherman, competing in fishing tournaments at area lakes. He passed down the tradition of hunting and fishing to his grandchildren, taking them on trips and adventures all over.

Survivors include his wife, Susie of the home; his daughter, Brandy Lynn Merritt of South Carolina; a stepson, David Ferguson (Tasha) of Girard, Kansas; his mother, Carrie Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters, Sue Smith of Weir, Kansas and Sherri Couch of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and three daughters, Kimberly Spurling, Kanah Leah Armstrong-Martin, and Mandy Marie Karstetter.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (December 12th) at Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Derek Harmon, who is officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Brenner Mortuary. Memorial donations can be made to the SEK Humane Society. These may be left in care of Brenner Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS.
