Steven was born on April 9, 1959 to Ruth and Harrold Berg at Watertown, SD. He graduated from Watertown High School and then served in the United States Marines Corp.
Steve and Bobbie were married in Watertown on May 5, 1990 and they settled in Henry, SD. Steve worked for many years in the construction industry as a pipe fitter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle, which he rode until he became disabled.
Steve loved his step-sons like they were his own and took great pride in caring for his grandchildren and playing with them. They were the light of his life. He even wrote a song for his granddaughter when she was little. She would often fall asleep while laying on Steve’s belly, listening to him sing the song to her. He was always making up songs to sing to the grandchildren.
