Steven Black Obituary
He was born Oct. 1, 1948 in Harrisburg, the son of the late Harold A. and Geraldine M. (Rodgers) Black.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Counsman of Flinton; and his brother, Scott (Diane) Black of Sinnemahoning; In-laws, Jim (Valerie) Counsman of Valparaiso, Fla., and Debra Counsman and her companion Rod Tweet of Brandon, Fla.; nephews, John, Eric and Hazar; and niece, Courtney Counsman. Also surviving is his uncle, Earl Black, and several cousins.
Steve was a 1967 graduate of Central Dauphin High School where he lettered in baseball and football. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Retired from PPL in Harrisburg, Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a diehard NY Yankees, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Green Bay Packers fan. He was a member of the First Church of God in Penbrook and Brisbin.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 at the First Church of God, in Brisbin. Inurnment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Church of God, 525 Swoope St., Brisbin, PA 16620; or the activities fund of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, 138 Veterans Blvd. Duncansville, PA 16635.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and UPMC Altoona for the compassionate care given to Steve.
