Steven William Castles, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Trenton, NJ, at the age of 59. Born on July 19,1965, in Orange, NJ, Steven's life was a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and the enduring strength of familial bonds.
Steven was born to Barbara Castles Ciszek and William Castles. He grew up in Edison, NJ and moved to Morganville in 1992, where he would establish deep roots and become a beloved member of the community. Steven's professional life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit; he was the proud owner of SBI Contractors, a roofing business he operated for over three decades. He also worked at Middletown Board Of Education doing roofing maintenance for 25 Years. His commitment to craftsmanship and service was unparalleled, and he took great pride in helping his children, Nicole and Matthew, start their own venture, The Cookie Castle Co. in Aruba.
Beyond his professional achievements, Steven was a man of many interests and talents. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, becoming the neighborhood handyman known for his willingness to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His infectious laughter and sense of humor could light up any room, and his kindness was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A true family man, Steven's devotion to his loved ones was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his wife Natalia Daza Castles; his children Nicole and Matthew Castles; his mother, Barbara Castles Ciszek; his brothers, John and Brian Castles; his sisters, AnnMarie Kelly, Linda Koczot, and Maureen Geppert; his nieces and nephews Sean & Jack Kelly, Ryan, Jake, Mackenzie, Andrew & Luke Geppert, Katie & Thomas Castles, Anna & John Castles; Joseph, Kristen, and Christopher Koczot; and his best friends, Bruce McCloud, Ken Walls, Vinny Antes and Ron Parsons. His presence will also be greatly missed by his neighbors, who were an extension of his family. Steven was predeceased by his father, William Castles, who passed away in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and love that Steven carried forward.
Steven's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He was an avid lover of nature, finding peace and joy in gardening and appreciating the beauty of flowers. His culinary passions included a love for food, sweets, coffee, wine and black sambuca. He always enjoyed his travels and vacations with Natalia and his children and his dog CleoPatra Castles. Steven's adventurous spirit was shown through in his active lifestyle, which included his love for kiteboarding, dirt biking, bicycling, and having Bon fires with his neighbors.
Those who knew Steven will remember him for his unwavering work ethic, his generosity, and his ability to find humor in everyday life. He was a beacon of light and warmth, always ready to share a joke or a meal, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
As we say goodbye to Steven William Castles, we celebrate a life lived with vigor, compassion, and an unshakeable commitment to his loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, and his memory will be cherished in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm as well as Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Waitt Funeral Home, 501 HWY 79, Morganville, NJ 07751. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2025 at 11:00am at St Clement Church, 172 Freneau Avenue, Matawan, NJ 07747. Burial will follow at St Gertrude's Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ 07067. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Steven, please visit our floral store.
