Steven Michael Clouse, age 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at his hill country home on the morning of August 6, 2025.
Steve was born February 11,1959 in Columbus, Ohio to Helen and Edward Clouse. A military family, the Clouses moved throughout the US before landing in Boerne in the 1970s. Steve graduated from Boerne High School in 1977 and then went on to Southwest Texas State University to study aquatic biology. During his time in college, he met his wife, Geri Squilla, who was his devoted soul mate for 46 years.
As a young boy, he grew up surfing and scuba diving on the North Shore of Hawaii where he developed his love for water and the natural world around him. An avid traveler and adventure seeker, Steve continued diving throughout his life and loved taking his family to explore exotic new dive spots. Back in the day, Steve excelled at long distance running and basketball. More recently, he enjoyed restoring antique cars and wood turning. A man of many talents, Steve had a sharp mind and fierce desire to learn something about everything.
Steve served the City of San Antonio for 40 years in various positions at San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS). He began as a water sample collector in 1985 and retired as the Chief Operating Officer in 2022. The water treatment plant that bears his name – The Steven M. Clouse Water Recycling Center – was recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency as the best in the nation, as well as being the first in the country to recycle all treatment process residuals, including water, biosolids, and methane gas.
Aside from his beloved chickens, Steve's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by his wife Geri Clouse, daughter Madeline Kelly and husband Matt, his son Zach and wife Amanda. His brother Darryl (Teresa), and sisters Donna Turner (Mike), and Barbara Nelson (Bill) along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Edward Clouse.
A memorial service will be held at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N. Main Street, Boerne, Texas 78006 on August 14, 2025. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Hope Community Church of Elizabethtown, KY, and Mitchell Lake Audubon Center of San Antonio, TX.
