Steven Craig Cowley, known affectionately as Stevie-boy, S-boy, TeTe, Headly or Ampa to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on March 16, 1952, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Steve's infectious smile and boundless energy were a beacon of light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Steve spent his Elementary school years in Java, SD and then moved to Storden, MN. He moved to Villard, MN his Senior year of high school where he made life-long friends.
Steve was the beloved son of the late Vern and Marcene Cowley, and a cherished brother to Debra Lohmann and Sherry Larson, with whom he shared numerous treasured memories. His brother-in-law Norm Larson, along with many extended family members, will miss Steve's jovial nature and the warmth he exuded.
A proud father, Steve is survived by his three daughters: Stephanie McQuillan, Ashley Barton, Allie Corey and their mother Sandra Cowley. His sons-in-law, Dustin McQuillan, Lancer Barton, and Lucas Corey, held a special place in his heart. Steve's seven adored grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and his role as a grandfather was one he embraced with the same passion and vigor that characterized his entire life.
A lifelong learner, Steve completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota Morris and later earned his Master's degree in Sociology from Mankato State. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career in sales, where he was renowned for his ability to forge lasting relationships based on trust, respect, and his innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Steve's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service and kindness toward others. He lived his beliefs through his actions, and his compassionate spirit was evident to all who met him.
An athlete at heart, Steve held a special place in Villard High School's history, where he still holds the basketball record for most points scored in a single game. His love for sports continued throughout his life, with jogging, cycling, gym workouts, and soaking up the sunshine being among his favorite activities. Steve also enjoyed a good round of golf, a competitive tennis match, and cherished moments spent with his family.
Those who knew Steve will remember him as kind, funny, and adventurous. His quick wit and willingness to embark on new journeys, whether they were literal travels, secret missions or a desire to leave a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Steve's life was a testament to the joy that can be found in everyday moments and the importance of nurturing relationships with love and humor. As we say goodbye to Steven Craig Cowley, we celebrate the remarkable man he was and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His spirit will continue to inspire us, and his memory will be treasured forever.
