Steven Dickinson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Mar. 30, 2026.
Steven Wayne Dickinson, age 81, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 5am on Monday, March 30th, 2026, at the Heart to Heart Hospice Facility in Evansville.

Steve was born August 30th 1944 in Batesville, IN to William M. and Sara J (Willingham) Dickinson. He attended Central High School, where he played several ports, but his true love was football. Steve was selected as Honorable Mention Indiana All-State in 1961. Steve LOVED golf and played as long as he was able to. He fancied himself an excellent coach, and gave tips every chance he got.

Steve served the citizens of Evansville for 20 years as a member of the Evansville Police Department. After retiring from EPD, Steven worked a second 20 year career as a concrete truck driver for IMI (Formerly Evansville Concrete). Steve made many friends in both careers, and had fond memories of each. He loved to share stories from his time on EPD.

Steve married the love of his life, Jeanne, in 1971. She preceded him in death in 2024, and he's missed her ever since. Steve was a loving caregiver to Jeanne at the end of her life. Steve is survived by his children Stephanie Riley (Jeremy) and son Joseph Dickinson (Jackie). He's also survived by a stepson, Paul Logsdon. Steve also leaves behind several loving grandchildren: Kaitlin, Alyson, Chelsea, Hannah, Sara, Abby, Kylie, Lawren, Alyssa and Matthew, along with several great grandchildren. All of whom will miss their "Papaw" dearly. Steve is also survived by his sisters, Tressa Strouse (Gene) and Norma Jean Rich.

Steve also had two faithful friends until the end. Special thanks to Joe Bassemeier and Mike Weimer for their unwavering support and friendship.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Glenn and Darrell Dickinson, and his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne.

Steve's family would like to thank the staff at Deaconess Infusion Center for their kindness during his chemotherapy treatments. Also, the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for the care they showed for him until the very end. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Chemo Buddies.

A brief visitation will be held Saturday April 4th beginning at 10am, with a memorial service at 11am at Sunset Funeral Home.
