Steven Doss

Steven Lynn Doss, 69, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on Friday, November 14th. His family was by his side holding his hands as he went to join the Heavenly Father. Steve had fought a good fight for many years to be with the ones he loved the most. He was tired and his body was worn out, so it is a bittersweet blessing that he no longer has to deal with the pain and limitations.
Steven was born on July 23, 1956, to Gilbert "Pete" and Grace Doss. He was raised knowing that God, family, and work were the most important things in life. He loved being with his family, which he cherished above all else here on Earth. We know he was sad to leave but was looking forward to going to his Heavenly home. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, farming, hiking, and embracing any opportunity to be active outdoors.
On July 21, 1993, Steve and Janie were married. Together they shared three daughters: Amelia, Elizabeth, and Koleen. Today, this family of 5 has grown to 22. Amelia and Josh Dodson have their son Dalton and his wife Sarah with their daughter Maeve, daughter Kierston and her longtime boyfriend Alex, daughter Aubree and son Braxel. Elizabeth and Andrew Emory have their son Gabriel, son Steven Ashur, daughter Emery, son Isaac, daughter Dorothy, and son Theodore. Koleen and Matt have their son MacLean and daughter Jordan. He is also survived by his mother Grace, as well as his brothers Timothy, Michael, and David. He was preceded in death by his father Gilbert "Pete" Doss and cousin Leland Doss.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and determination which will continue to shape the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but will live on through all the stories and wonderfully fond memories he helped to create.
In lieu of flowers, Steven would greatly appreciate contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt, MO, where Steve was a lifelong member, with Reverend Jake Sletten officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
