Veda Gay Shelton

Veda Shelton, 71, of Monett, MO, departed this life on November 14, 2025 and ran into the arms of Jesus with family by her side.
Veda was born in Denver, Colorado, on April 29, 1954. Her dad was in the Air Force and Veda lived in many places in her lifetime. She lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, Germany, Florida, England, Kansas, and Missouri. Veda had a heart for teaching children as a Special Education teacher in the Kansas City Area. Her love for all children carried over to enjoying each moment with her grandsons Ari and Alexander Burnett and her great nieces Astrid and Winter Shelton. These children brought her so much delight. Whenever she was around these children her eyes would light up with joy and laughter would fill the room. She was a blessing to them as they were a blessing to her.
Veda had several jobs throughout her life but the jobs she cherished most was being a mom, daughter, grandma, and aunt. She loved spending time with family and helping wherever was needed. She had a servant's heart as she wanted to bless others.
Those left to rejoice in her life and fingerprints she left on their hearts are her son, Mark Burnett and wife Andrea Kaplan of Clayton, MO; her mother, Blanche Shelton of Monett; two grandsons, Ari Burnett and Alexander Burnett both of Clayton, MO; two brothers, Virgil Shelton and wife Deb of Owasso, OK and Daniel Shelton and wife Debbie of Monett; sister-in-law Linda Hanes and husband Ed of Oklahoma; five nephews, Sean Shelton and wife Rickell of St. George, UT; Brandon Shelton and wife Jessica of Owasso, OK; Nick Shelton of Oologah, OK; Luke Shelton and wife Baleigh of Monett, MO; Daniel Hanes of Oklahoma. She had two nieces, Hailey Shelton of California; Leah Runnels and husband Patrick of Oklahoma; and a host of extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lessley Shelton; one brother, Kenneth Shelton.
As paraphrased from 2 Timothy 4:9 says Veda has fought the good fight. She has finished the race. She has kept the faith. Her legacy lives on in each of us who were blessed to be a part of her life. We will continue to smile with memories and remember her devoting love and generosity for each of us.
A private graveside burial will be in the Kings Prairie Cemetery southeast of Monett. Reverend Daniel Shelton will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Kings Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
