L. Lynn Shelton
Born January 10th, 1934 in Roosevelt, Utah to Stephen E. Shelton and Rhea L. Smith. Family moved to SLC in 1937 where he attended SLC schools graduating from West High.
Served in the U.S Navy in Korea and Vietnam aboard the "USS Clearwater County" and "USS Mountrail". He was a member of the American Legion.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1960 and a Master's degree in 1965 from the University of Utah. He was employed by the Utah State Board of Education as a Rehabilitation Counselor. He was a past board member of the Utah Rehabilitation Counselors Association. He retired from Union Pacific railroad after 44 years of service.
He was active in sports as a youth. He was a member of the state champion baseball team, Junior Optimist League, in 1948. He enjoyed golf and was an early supporter of the Utah Junior Golf Association. He was a lifetime member of Alpine Country Club. He enjoyed fishing and back packing into the back country of Yellowstone with his family.
He was a member of the Crimson Club and a long-time supporter of University of Utah Athletics. He loved Jazz music and had an extensive Jazz music collection. He married Carole Elizabeth Andrews on October 27th, 1955.
He is survived by his wife Carole, and four children Karen Brown (deceased), Diane Heinz (Kirk), Lynn Shelton, and Brad Shelton. Also survived by six grandchildren; Amanda Heinz, Tyler Heinz, Ashley Bergener (Monty), Sara Heinz, Emily Shelton, and Cole Shelton.
He is preceded in death by both parents and three brothers Norman, Rex, and Calvin. His sister Glenda Lehmkuhl, and daughter Karen Brown (Billy).
A Graveside service will be held at the Murray City Cemetery on November 18th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held on Monday, November 17th, 2025 from 6 - 8 PM at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, UT 84107.
