Steven P. Florent, 77, died Friday morning, September 29, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of 47 years of Deborah A. (Delmonico) Florent of Brockton. Born and raised in New Bedford, he was a graduate of New Bedford High School. Steven was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned home and began working at the VA Hospital in Brockton where he met his future wife Deborah. He later worked as a mechanic and obtained his Master Mechanic Certification and worked for several area auto dealerships, including Champion Mazda in Brockton and McLaughlin Chevrolet in Whitman. After his retirement, he returned to the VA Hospital and worked in the Maintenance Department for several years. Steven was an avid fisherman and enjoyed freshwater fishing at several area lakes. He was also an avid bowler and was in several area bowling leagues including at Westgate Lanes in Brockton. The thing that his life revolved around was his beloved family. He was a dedicated husband, father and “Pepe” who cherished the time he spent with his family and his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, James F. O’Rourke of RI and MSG Bryan E. O’Rourke, US Army, and his wife MAJ Sarah O'Rourke, US Army of OH as well as his daughter in law Cynthia O’Rourke. He was the beloved Pepe of Connor, Alec, Meaghan, James, Ashleigh and Koston O’Rourke. He was the great-grandfather of McKenna, Ephraim and his newborn great granddaughter Joy.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday from 9-11AM followed by Funeral Prayers at 11AM. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in Steven’s memory may be to American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701.
