DOVER – Steven W. Frey, 71, entered into rest Sunday morning, December 10, 2023 at my home following a sudden illness.
If you are reading this, my time has arrived for transfer. I have enjoyed my time here at Ft. Living Room and look forward to my move to Ft. Glory. This will be an unaccompanied, Permanent Change of Station (PCS) tour with my family permitted to follow on a time to be announced (TBA). Let me say that it has been my honor to serve with each of you. Remember to continue the mission and to provide whatever assistance is necessary to ensure the success of your superiors, peers and subordinates. My assignment at Ft. Glory will be in a staff capacity since I am told there is nothing for a medical non-commissioned officer (NCO) to do because there is no injury or illness. I look forward to my free time where I am told the sun always shines, the temperature always pleasant and the fish always biting. I look forward to meeting face-to-face with the Supreme Commander and serving again with those who have preceded me. I hope HE will appreciate the skills and experience I have gained thus far in my career and that I can be an asset in my new assignment. To my peers, I ask that you kindly keep an eye on my family and provide any assistance they may need before they are permitted to join me.
I am survived by my beloved wife of 46 years, Linda (Poet) Frey, son, Tony Frey and his wife, Jennifer and granddaughter, Brooke Frey, all of Dover; three brothers, Bruce Frey and wife, Navinka, of Felton, David Frey of York and Mark Frey of Columbia; and numerous and beloved nieces and nephews. My parents, Earl and Jean (Brooks) Frey, preceded me in death.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend my memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Bible Baptist Church, 4190 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Veteran's honors will be presented by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Schutt. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County Food Bank, 15 Marianne Drive, York, PA 17406.
