Steven Gaines Obituary

He was born on August 16, 1950, in Rensselaer, IN, the son of Ward and Jane (Lowry) Gaines. Steve was a 1968 graduate of Rensselaer High School. On September 19, 1981, he married the love of his life, Diana L. Carlile, and she survives.
Steve was a lifelong self-employed farmer until his retirement. He was deeply rooted in his community and took pride in his work and the land he cared for. He enjoyed participating in and watching tractor pulls, snowmobiling with friends, and spending time outdoors. In his younger years, Steve loved riding motorcycles and playing cards with friends. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandson, Caleb.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; daughters, Sarah (Rob) Hintz of Gainesville, FL, and Jenny (Robbie) Tirey of Winamac, IN; grandson, Caleb Tirey; sisters, Susan Gaines and Sally (Earl) Dobson, both of Rensselaer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
A Time of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper County Fair Association, 2671 W. Clark Street, Rensselaer, IN 47978.
