Steven Good Obituary

Steven D. Good, born on December 1, 1957, in New Castle, Indiana, and passed away surrounded by the love of his family on March 2, 2026. He carried with him the values of hard work, humility, and creativity throughout his life. A 1977 graduate of Clarksville High School, he went on to attend Ivy Tech Community College, earning a degree in electronics that would shape a long and accomplished professional career.

For more than 40 years, Steve made his home in Lexington, Kentucky with his beloved wife, Patty, and daughter, Kellie. There, he dedicated 37 years of service to Xerox Corporation as a senior technical analyst. Known for his steady expertise and thoughtful problem-solving, Steve built not just systems and solutions, but lasting friendships with colleagues who respected both his skill and his integrity. After retirement, he returned to Southern Indiana, carrying with him a lifetime of memories and accomplishments.

Beyond his professional life, Steve's impact reached across the globe through his extraordinary contribution to the scroll saw art community. As the founder and the voice behind Scrollsaw Workshop, he devoted nearly 20 years to sharing his craft. He designed and generously published more than 5,000 custom scroll saw patterns and wrote daily blog posts for nearly 20,000 subscribers. Over one million visitors from countries around the world found inspiration, guidance, and encouragement through his work. His creativity and generosity helped shape a worldwide community of artists, many of whom considered him not only a teacher, but a friend.

Steve was also a devoted fan of Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball, rarely missing a game and celebrating each season with unwavering loyalty. He found joy in many hobbies over the years - computer gaming, photography, and playing acoustic guitar - but nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with family and friends. Whether gathered around a table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying quiet moments together, Steve's warmth and gentle humor made every occasion brighter.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Patty Balmer Good; his daughter and son-in-law, Kellie (Shane) Shuford; and his beloved puppy, Holly Sue. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marvina Fowler (Harry) Sullivan; his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin (Lisa) Pennington; his sisters-in-law, Andrea Amy and Kathy (Steve) Quebbeman; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Burch Good and Elizabeth Ann Pennington; his older brother, Garvey Fowler; his father- and mother-in-law, Melvin and Sue Balmer; and his brother-in-law, Timothy Balmer.

Steve will be remembered for his creativity, generosity, quiet wisdom, and steadfast love for those closest to him. His legacy lives on not only in the countless pieces of art inspired by his patterns, but in the hearts of his family, friends, and the global community he so thoughtfully nurtured.

Visitation will be located at Scott Funeral Home at 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130 on Monday, March 9th, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow. Private burial will be held Tuesday, March 10th at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Association of Clark County at 2702 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130.

"It is with deep sadness that I received the news of Master Stevie Good's passing. His generosity in sharing knowledge and his countless free projects have transformed the lives of artisans worldwide. As a Brazilian living in Brazil, I want to emphasize the impact of his work across borders: it was thanks to him that I discovered the scroll saw, and to this day, I still craft many of the models he taught us. The Scrollsaw Workshop will remain a testament to his passion and talent. My deepest gratitude and condolences to his family; may his legacy continue to inspire new generations of artists."

Steve was a huge asset to the scrollsaw community. He was a great teacher, advocate and pattern designer. As busy as he was he was still able to find the time to communicate directly with his audience. His website has been referenced thousands of times when people ask where to find inspiration.

I will greatly miss seeing his messages each day. Sincere condolences the family, we pray for you during this difficult time
