Steven Dale Hanefeld “Huck”, 67, of Brandon passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2024 after a courageous 4 ½ year battle with cancer.
Steven was born July 16th, 1956 in Burnett the son of Howard and Eunice (Genrich) Hanefeld. Steve grew up in the town of Burnett and later moved to Horicon with his family. Huck graduated in 1974 from Horicon High School. After high school he attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay from 1974-1975 for diesel mechanics. He married Beverly Brown Schmuhl from Brandon on July 8, 1994. He drove truck for Hanefeld Bros in Burnett from 1974-2015. From 2015 to 2021 he drove truck for United Coop in Beaver Dam from which he retired due to health problems.
He is survived by his wife Bev; stepson Michael (Suzie) Schmuhl and their four children Mason, Brayden, Everley and Brooks of Brandon. A brother Roger (Jan) Hanefeld of Burnett; sisters, Debi (Tom) Sutton of Amelia Island, FL, and Linda (Mike) Vollrath of North Freedom, WI; sisters-in-law, Linda (Jeff) Remick of Alexandria, VA, Kathy (Jim) Vaade of Brandon, Kim (Mario) Wierzchowski of Richland, WA.; brother-in-law, Jeff (Patty) Brown of Ripon and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Steve is preceded by his parents, stepfather Gene Burchardt, and in-laws Ronald and Phyllis Brown.
Special thanks to SSM Hospice that took wonderful care of him, especially Janine Ramsey, his hospice nurse.
A private family service will be held.
