Steven was born on June 19th, 1960, in Bakersfield to Bentura and Delia Herrera. He grew up in Bakersfield with his siblings Ben and Cynthia. Steve quickly developed a love for music where he later participated in the Bakersfield High School Driller Band.
After graduation, Steve married the love of his life Juanita Gomez on February 9th, 1980, and together they shared 45 wonderful years of love and companionship. He was a loving grandfather, parent, brother, and son. Steve is survived by his wife Juanita Herrera, his children Steven Jr., Rocio their children Fenissi and David Herrera, Anthony & Jessica their daughter Lauren Herrera, Pedro & Caitlin Verduzco, and Bobby & Ariana Tavera.
Over the years Steve dedicated a great deal of his life not only to his loving family but also to his extended work family at the Kern County Sheriff's Office as a reserve deputy as well as with the District Attorney's Office as an Investigative Supervisor with the locating unit for over 20 years. Steve often received accolades and awards as he assisted other counties and states with locating of missing children, youth, and adults.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was known for his love of music, cooking, camping and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He could often be found in his living room playing a song on his guitar for his children or playing his saxophone. Steve also loved attending the Bakersfield Greek Festival where he would assist with cooking. Steve was a kind man with Christian values always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it.
The family would like to express their upmost respect and gratitude to the 5th floor staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Debbie and Diane with Coram for their care and support at this time.
