Steven D. McGaha, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Friday, July 12, 2024.
He was born in New Castle on November 16, 1951 to the late Mary A. Johnson and Roy G.McGaha Sr. He grew up in Mooreland and attended Mooreland Elementary.
Steve attended Blue River Valley High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball and track, He earned numerous awards in high jump and pole vault.
He joined the military his senior year and served his country as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam. After his tour ended, he returned home to Mooreland for several years and then moved to Georgia. There, he met the love of his life, Mary, where they shared many happy years.
Until he retired, he owned and operated a painting business in Georgia.
Steve was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Bucketmouth Bassmasters Club. He participated in several fishing tournaments and he won many awards.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 33 years, Mary; a stepson, Robb Airhart and a step-daughter, Andi Mathis that he raised as his own; three step-grandchildren, Zack Green, Jacob Airhart and Maddox Mathis; his sister's, Sandy Appeldorn and Terri McKinsey; a brother, Roy "Junior" McGaha and; step-brothers, Larry (Sue) White and Brent White; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his longtime friend, Don Blevins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by, a step-son, Nick Airhart; two brothers-in-law, William "Bill" Appeldorn and Dennis McKinsey; maternal grandparents, Allen C. and Helen Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Roy D. "Tennessee" and Rose McGaha; step-brother, Patrick White and step-sister, Ruth Sutton.
There will be no services per Steve's request.
Local memorial services are being planned and will be announced.
