Heaven gained another angel on Monday, December 4, 2023, when Steven James McNitt, age 67, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 1, 1956, in Coldwater to Wayne and Wanda (Brewer) McNitt. Steve married Linda Heckman on December 27, 1995, and she survives.
Steve attended Quincy School and was formerly employed as an oven operator at Voltek in Coldwater. He was a member of the North American Hunt Club and lover of all animals, especially his dogs. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, salmon fishing, and mushrooming. He also enjoyed driving for the Amish and lending a helping hand to those in need.
In addition to his wife, Linda McNitt, Steve is survived two children, Dusti (Chris) Donbrock of Coldwater, and Tod (Pam) Earl of Medford, Oregon; four grandchildren, Abigail (Connor) Dwyer, Madison (Logan Widlitzki) Donbrock, Amanda (Philip) Bustamante, and Scott Earl; five great-grandchildren including his special buddy, Carson; two siblings, Rick (Lila) McNitt of Kinderhook, and Melinda Morri; and his special dog, Sassy.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life for Steven McNitt will be announced in the summer of 2024. Private family interment will be held at Wilson Cemetery in Coldwater at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home – George White Chapel in Quincy.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of Branch County.
