Steven McSweeney Obituary

Steven Daniel McSweeney, longtime resident of Salem, Ohio, passed away in his North Canton home on September 8, 2025, at the age of 64.

Born August 30, 1961, in Waverly, New York, Steve was the son of Daniel J. McSweeney and Margo Eike.

In 1980, Steve enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a Strategic Aircraft Maintenance Technician with the rank of Staff Sergeant until 1987. He was then employed with U.S. Air/American Airlines from 1987 through the early 2000s as an airline mechanic. He spent the last 18 years working as a lineman for FirstEnergy, Corp., Ohio Edison.

Steve had an adventurous spirit and loved being outdoors, camping, fishing, kayaking, and riding dirt bikes with his brother. Passionate about music, especially rock and roll, Steve enjoyed playing guitar and shared his love of music with his daughters, creating many lasting memories at concerts they attended together. He also enjoyed traveling, cooking while being at the lake, playing and watching hockey, especially cheering on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and taking on large home projects as he was quite the skilled handyman.

Steve held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being a father to Sarah and Anna. His first granddaughter was born just this past Friday, and the title of grandpa was one he was excitedly looking forward to wearing with the same devotion and love he had for his daughters.

Steve will be lovingly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, courage, loving nature, and generosity he showed to others.

Steve is survived by his daughters, Sarah (Ceddie) Conway of Wexford, PA, and Anna McSweeney of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Aria Joy Conway of Wexford, PA; mother, Margo Eike of Sayre, PA; sister, Christine McSweeney of Knoxville, TN; aunts, an uncle, and many cousins. He also leaves behind his feline buddy, Ricco.

In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, David T. McSweeney; paternal grandparents, Eileen and Thomas McSweeney; maternal grandparents, Claire and Herbert Eike; aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Richard Eike; uncles, Herbert Eike and Thomas McSweeney; and cousins, Vanessa Eike and Susan Eike.

Family and friends will be received from 4-6 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m.
