Steven L. Murdock, 71, of Hamer, Idaho, passed away December 4, 2024, at his home. He was under the care of Brio Hospice.
Steve was born in Rexburg, Idaho, on March 3, 1953, to Dave and Uvon Murdoch. He grew up in Independence, Idaho, until he was 6 years old, then he moved with his parents to Idaho Falls, Idaho. Steve attended school at Riverside Elementary School, O.E. Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Skyline High School in 1971.
Steve loved baseball. He was a member of the Green Hats. He played basketball and was a pretty darn good linebacker.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He spent 13 months in Korea in the DMZ as a guard on the Airbase. Steve was a member of VFW Post #8893.
In 1975, Steve and his brother, Dan, moved to Hamer to begin their lifelong partnership in farming and ranching. Steve and Dan built a log home to live in. This was Steve's home throughout the remainder of his life.
Steve was an excellent horseman. He tolerated the cows, but most of all, lived life.
He loved to go hunting at Weber Creek. He was an excellent marksman. He loved floating the river and fishing.
Steve was a good friend to everyone. He has many lifelong friends of all ages. Steve also loved his family. He had many nieces and nephews that meant the world to him. Steve was a member of the LDS Church.
Steve met Teresa North in Idaho Falls. They hit it off immediately. They were married and made their home in the log home in Hamer.
After years of heartache and trials, Steve and Teresa were so happy to welcome their son, Chance. Steve loved being a dad more than anything. The three of them enjoyed living their life on the ranch.
Teresa and Chance had a lot of health issues. Steve was very helpful and supportive and took excellent care of them both. Teresa passed away in 2018, and Chance passed away in 2019.
Steve had so many very good friends to help keep him busy. He had many memories of all the great times they all had.
Steve always said his proudest accomplishment was to never be dead weight at a party, and he never was.
Steve is survived by his brother, Dan (Brenda) Murdoch of Hamer, ID; sister, Mitzi (Richard) Savage of Hamer, ID; and brother, Clay (Lori) Murdoch of Shelley, ID.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa; son, Chance; father, Dave; mother, Uvon; and his little sister, Lori.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Archer-Sutton Cemetery.
