Steven Robak
March 12, 1953 - June 15, 2025
Steven Paul Robak, 72, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his home in Columbus.
An open house celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 20th, from 2:30 to 4:30 at the Friedhoff building. People are invited to continue celebrating at the Columbus Horse Races beginning at 5 p.m. if they'd like.
Steven Paul Robak was born on March 12, 1953, to Elmer and Elizabeth (Bernecki) Robak, in Columbus, Nebraska. Steve was the third of their eight boys. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1971.
After graduation, Steve began a forty-year career working on the Union Pacific Railroad, working as a track machine operator until retirement.
Steve was blessed with two daughters, Erica and Sabrina. His daughters blessed him with five grandchildren, which were his pride and joy. Steve was always prepared for their visits with at least a snack and a piece of sports trivia. The grandchildren also never got to leave without playing a hand of poker, and Steve always contributed a ten-dollar bill for the pot. He tried to make sure they understood the odds and the risk of going "double or nothing."
When Steve was younger, he spent a lot of time playing pool with his friends. Steve also enjoyed watching and betting on sports, especially college football and NASCAR. He loved horse racing and even attended the Kentucky Derby in person. Steve found joy in preparing food for his loved ones.
Steve had a knack for keeping in touch with his lifelong friends. His phone was always ringing as he and his friends communicated regularly. Steve was known to spend more time on the phone with his friends than his daughters did.
Steve is survived by: daughter, Erica (Trent) Earley of Columbus, Nebraska; grandchildren, Lillie, Niles, Lewin and Linus Earley; Daughter, Sabrina (Jeff Stahler) of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter, Ada Stahler; and brothers, Dan (Marilyn) Robak, Mike (Jan) Robak, John (Angell) Robak, Jim Robak, Mark (Kristen) Robak, Tim Robak.
Steve was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Robak; and brother, Dave Robak.
