Steven Kent Sexton I, age 67, of Newberry, Michigan, died on August 25, 2025, at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry. He was born on September 28, 1957, in Cadillac, Michigan, to Harvey and Marla (Pringle) Sexton. Steven grew up in Cadillac and graduated from Brethren High School. One of eight siblings, he learned the value of hard work early in life. He spent his early years cutting wood before beginning his career at 4 Winns Boat Factory in Cadillac. Steven was once married to Denise Malama, and together they raised four children. After living in Wellston, Michigan, for a while, they built their family home in Mesick, Michigan. Steven enjoyed spending time in nature. He loved hunting, but fishing always held a special place in his heart and brought him the most peace. Over the years, he fell in love with Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and after retirement, he fulfilled a dream by moving there to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the north. Steven is survived by his children, Steven Sexton II of Mesick, Karen Sexton of Escanaba, Michigan, William Sexton of Mesick, and Sarah Rose Sexton of Corydon, Indiana; grandchildren, Tyler Sexton, Cassie Sexton, Katelynn Sexton, and Kylie Sexton; mother, Marla Sexton of Manistee, Michigan; and siblings, Wayne Sexton of Wellston, Michigan, Martin Sexton of Wellston, Allen Sexton of Brethren, Michigan, Dean Sexton of Thompsonville, Michigan, Christeen Sexton of Manistee, Colleen Sexton of Interlochen, Michigan, and Evelyn Sexton of Freesoil, Michigan. Steven was preceded in death by his father, Harvey; nephew, Jason Sexton; and sister-in-law, Candace Sexton. A Prayer Service will be held at Red Bridge Landing in Brethren on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 12:00 Noon. A luncheon will follow at 1:00 PM at the Norman Township Hall, 1273 Seaman Rd., Wellston, MI 49689. Online condolences may be left at www.familylifefh.com.
