Steven Joseph Sherry

Steven Joseph Sherry, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Steven was a gifted singer and songwriter whose music drew inspiration from Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Gordon Lightfoot. His songs told stories-about longing, wanderlust, and love-and he performed them with a gentle strength in small clubs from Greenwich Village to the Jersey Shore.
Steven's life was a tapestry of movement and return. He traveled across the United States, living for many years in California which was the source of so much inspiration for his music, always chasing the spirit of a lyric or the horizon of a dream, but New Jersey was always home.
He had an eye for beauty in ordinary things: the rhythm of city streets, the stillness of a lake, the grain of an old guitar. He was generous with his time and fiercely loyal to those he loved. Though quiet, he left a deep impression on many-never demanding attention, always offering presence.
Steven is survived by his mother Lucille, five siblings-Frank Jr., Leslie, Lydia Okafor-Agilo and her husband Ezekiel, Kevin, and Michael-his nephew Brian, his close aunt Gwen Westee, and his dear friend Thomas Copeland. He was predeceased by his father Frank Sr. and his sister Jacqueline.
His spirit lives on in the music he left behind, the memories he gave us, and the countless walks and conversations that won't be forgotten.
