Steven Irwin Weiner

Dr. Steven Irwin Weiner, a devoted educator, accomplished musician, and father, passed away on December 12, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on July 8, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry and Beatrice (Weisman) Weiner.
Steven's academic journey was marked by excellence. He earned a degree in music from the Philadelphia School of the Arts, a master's degree in education from Temple University, and a doctorate in education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His career spanned over 30+ years with the Clark County School District, where he served as a music teacher and later as a school principal, leaving a lasting impact on many students and colleagues.
Before dedicating himself to education, Steven was an accomplished musician. He performed with iconic bands like Blood, Sweat & Tears and renowned jazz musicians such as Stanley Clarke, Michael Brecker, and Michael Pedicin. In college, his quintet was recognized by DownBeat Magazine as the top small group at collegiate jazz festivals in 1967 and 1968. Later, Steven's band "Home" signed with Columbia Records and released their first rock album. His musical career also included performances alongside touring musicians in Las Vegas, including the legendary Elvis Presley.
In addition to his musical achievements, Steven was an innovator. He invented the Grime Gutter, a popular trumpet accessory that was later acquired by Bach in the early 2000s.
Having played sports in his youth, Steven was a lifelong sports enthusiast and was an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers, as well as all the Las Vegas local teams.
Steven is survived by his loving daughter, Meredith Shea, his grandson, Nathaniel Shea, and his son-in-law, Anthony Shea, all of Pelham Manor, New York.
He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah (Hoffman) Weiner, his son, Zachary Weiner, and his brother Richard Weiner.
His contributions to education, music, and innovation will forever resonate with those who knew him.
