Steven L. Williams, 74
Steven L Williams was born in Belle Glade, Florida on July 18, 1951 to Robert "Buster" Williams and Anita "Nickie" Godwin Williams. Steve's early years in Belle Glade were brief but would become deeply significant in shaping the course of his life and career. Steve was raised in Okeechobee, where he attended school from first grade through graduation. He was a member of the Okeechobee High School Class of 1969 - the first graduating class of the "new" high school. His academic journey continued at the University of South Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance (Go Bulls!).
Steve began his professional career managing the Farm Credit office, where he provided financial support to farmers and ranchers throughout the Glades region. His knowledge of agriculture and finance found a perfect blend in this role, which would set the stage for the next chapter of his career.
Steve went on to serve as President of Knight Management Inc., a large family-owned agricultural enterprise. He oversaw the operations of sugar cane, sweet corn, sod, beans, citrus, and cattle. For over 30 years, Steve supervised the daily operations until it was sold to U.S. Sugar. Steve then transitioned to working as a consultant for U.S. Sugar, where he assisted with their start up sweet corn program that continues to be the largest in the Glades.
After retiring in 2019, he devoted his strong work ethic towards fishing the Big Lake. In the 80s, Steve competed in many local bass fishing tournaments, but work got in the way. While fishing was his first love, hunting was a second. Numerous deer, elk, turkey, and quail would wind up on family and friends table because of his hunting excursions in the woods of Florida, Texas and Colorado. From running hounds as a young man (Clyde and Bud were his favorite) to his beloved Brittanies (Penny held a special place in his heart), in the quail woods, Steve enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with friends and family.
A fourth generation Floridian on both sides of his family, Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Nicki Williams; brother, Marshall Williams; nephew, Matthew Williams; and step-son, Brad Davis.
He is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl Williams; grandchildren, Camron Davis and Madison Davis; brother, Lew Williams (Ellen); nieces, Lorri Boyett (Leroy) and Dionna Bockoras (Jeremiah); nephew, Tommy Bunyard; great nephews, Riley Williams, Braxton Boyett, and Jake Farmer; great nieces, Taylor Boyett and Hannah Farmer; and lifetime friend and hunting buddy, Mike Holmes.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Buxton Okeechobee Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
