Strother Packer III, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, departed this life November 15,
2024. Strother was born May 10, 1949 to the union of Elder Strother Packer Jr, and Callie Stallworth Packer of whom along with his son, Lebaron Packer, preceded him in death.
Strother, better known by his middle name, Lewis was a 1967 graduate of Trinity Gardens High School (now known as Chestang-Fournier K-8 School). Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War as a marksman. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1971 and returned home to Mobile where he worked for the city of Mobile until retirement. Strother loved going to church and was a faithful member of Temple of Praise Church of God in Christ where his beloved sister, Kim Hunter, serves as pastor.
Strother Packer III leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Claudia Packer, children Tawanna Packer, Lesell (Kessa) Packer, Stepdaughter, Tina (Cedric) James, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, devoted sisters: Gennetta Jones, Gustavia Packer, Deborah Packer (Timothy) Robinson, Pastor Kim Packer (Jimmie)Hunter of whom he resided and was cared for and devoted brother and former caregiver Charles Packer. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces and nephews: special devoted, Katelyn Simone Rice, Chauncey Maxwell Rice, Chandler Marcellus Rice, Roderick Jones and Andrew Jones and devoted friend from childhood, Jerome Pickett.
Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2024 4p.m.-8 p.m. at Small's Mortuary 950 South Broad St. Mobile, AL 36603. Funeral services will be held at God's Grace Church of God in Christ 2806 Esau Avenue Mobile, AL 36617, Superintendent Eddie Neal host pastor, Apostle Lucian Butler, officiating minister. Graveside services and internment will be Monday, November 25, 2024 1 p.m. at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort 34904 AL-225 Spanish Fort, AL 36577. Professional and compassionate services entrusted to Small's Mortuary 950 South Broad Street Mobile, AL 36603.
