Stuart Richard Leonhart, age 83, passed away December 21, 2024, in
Georgetown, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Stu was born in Topeka, Kansas, to Helen and Harry Leonhart on August 22, 1941. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and attended Kansas State University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1964.
He had a long and successful career in the chemical industry. In 1966 he married Marianna (Mina) Jarrett in Corpus Christi, Texas. They soon moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed by other moves to Atlanta, Georgia; Branchburg, New Jersey; and Kingwood, Texas. Upon retirement, they moved to Georgetown to be closer to family.
Stu was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was a faithful Christian who lived his life with integrity, fairness, and honor. He loved Kansas State football and kept detailed records tracking the teams during the college football season. He was very involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry where he enjoyed helping the inmates learn and understand the Bible.
Music, especially Bob Dylan, was a big part of his life. Stu loved playing the guitar in local bands, open mikes, and talent shows.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mina Leonhart, two daughters, Courtney Leonhart Wilkinson and Claire Leonhart Cunningham, son-in-law, Damian Cunningham, and three grandchildren, Trip Wilkinson, Mimi Wilkinson and Maeve Cunningham.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17th at 2:00pm at St. John's Methodist Church, 311 E. University Ave.,
Georgetown, Texas 78626.
A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
