Sue Alewine Murphy

Betty Sue Alewine Murphy, 90, wife of the late James Aubrey Murphy, met her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.

Born November 11, 1935, in Anderson, she was the daughter of John Monroe Alewine and Nettie Kathleen Hall Alewine. She was a graduate of Girl's High in Anderson. Sue had many jobs in her lifetime outside the home but was always helping Aubrey on the farm in addition to raising their three daughters. She loved gardening and baking. Her yard was a showcase to her talent. She loved taking care of her four grandchildren and they loved her care and attention. She was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church and was active in her church until her health no longer allowed it.

She is survived by her three daughters, Carol Murphy Ogburn and husband, Bart of Greenville; Debbie Murphy Whitfield and husband, Terry of Piedmont; and Karen Murphy English and husband, David of Pawleys Island; four grandchildren, Kiefer Ogburn (Aneeqa), Brooke English Guy (Tyler), James English, and Michael English and great granddaughter Kaya Aubrey Ogburn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Boyce Alewine and sister, Alice Alewine Bradberry. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday November 22, 2025, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Brian Darrah and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the mortuary prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and McCall Hospice House.
