Betty Amanda Shirley Walker passed away peacefully on Monday November 17, 2025, after a very blessed life. She was 92 years old. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Kate Reed Shirley and Cecil Shirley. She was preceded in death by her sister Anne Holder and by her parents. She was also preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband of many years, Mickey Walker and her daughter-in-love, Susan Stiles Walker.

She is survived by two sisters, Nancy Strauss and Frances Maxwell (David). She is also survived by her children; sons, David (Jackie) Walker and Danny (Joanne) Walker and a daughter, Susan (Keith) Timmerman. She was lovingly known as "Manaw" to her family. Her grandchildren; Dr. Jackson (Dr. Lauren) Walker, Boone Walker, Clarke Walker, Dr. Amanda (Austin) Walker, Allie Walker, Cameron (Mary Katherine) Walker, Reed (Nathan) Timmerman, Wade (Kayla) Timmerman, Brandon Rink, and Emily Rink; her great grandchildren, Jack Walker, Lyle Walker, Shirley Kay Walker, Ruthie Walker, Rory Timmerman, Fisher Walker, Stevie Timmerman and one great grandchild expected in the near future. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude and love to her wonderful caregiver, Melody Holmes. The family would also like to thank the staff at The Garden House of Anderson, NHC, and Caris Hospice of NHC for their attentive care. The family especially has tremendous appreciation for all of her First Baptist Church of Anderson family, choir members and Sunday School classes through the years especially in recent days for their faithfulness and their demonstrated love to Betty.

Betty attended public schools here in Anderson. She graduated from Girls' High, Anderson Junior College, and Furman University. She and Mickey ministered to many age groups in the churches where they served as Sunday school leaders and in music ministry. Through the years, Betty taught in many schools - most of the schools that she taught in were in Anderson, South Carolina. She taught 40 years in first grade and then taught six years kindergarten at Anderson Christian School where she taught many of her grandchildren. She was instrumental in supporting her husband through various community ministries. She was known to her children's friends as their 'second mama'. She spent many happy times enriching her children's lives and making their numerous activities and endeavors possible. Betty Walker was a very supportive and encouraging woman according to all of her friends.

Most of all important to Betty was her love for Jesus and her desire for others to know Him. When Betty was nine years old she believed and trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She found the Blessed Assurance in His sacrificial death and resurrection which makes it possible for her to live out eternity with Him in heaven.

Jesus' Love shone through her life to everyone she met. The love for all of her children through the years in schools, churches, and in her home was an outreach and ministry in itself. She will certainly be welcomed into heaven as a most faithful servant of His Kingdom.

A private graveside burial is planned and a private interment will precede the service. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, November 22, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Anderson. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm. Family members will be at the Anderson home of Danny and Joanne Walker.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Haven of Rest Ministries, Anderson Christian School, First Baptist Church of Anderson, or to a charity of one's choice.

David, Danny and the whole Walker family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. The Walker's and the McGee's go way back. Our Dad's were very close friends for as long as I can remember. We always relied on the Walker family for our insurance needs. So sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom, she was such a beautiful, sweet and loving lady. She and Mickey always treated our family as their family. She will definitely be missed by all that knew her.
