Sue King Power, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Austin, Texas on June 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born at St. Joseph's Maternity Clinic in Houston, Texas on October 24, 1940, the daughter of Martha Wynona Raney and George Frank King.
She attended St. Anne's Catholic School where she completed the eighth grade as the valedictorian. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1958 and then attended The University of Texas at Austin.
In 1970 Sue married Almond Power, who pre-deceased her in 2005. She was also pre-deceased by her grandson, Dustin Nichlous Davis, in 2022.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Deirdra Davis (mother of Dustin) and Dayna Briggs; stepsons Richard and Steve Power; grandsons Jacob and Walker Briggs; and sisters Pamela Fontenot and Janet King (John Clifford).
During her marriage to Almond, Sue moved to Omaha, Nebraska and later, to Denver, where she worked for Jones Intercable as an administrator in the telecommunications industry. She returned to Austin to retire in 2006.
In her lifetime, Sue had many accomplishments: she was an ardent art quilter, a master bridge player, an expert cook, and a strong family matriarch. She was a force of nature in our lives, unstoppable and unforgettable, and we will miss our beautiful mother deeply and forever.
Friends and family are invited to join us for a "Celebration of Life in Color" to be held at the
Onion Creek Club on Tuesday, June 24, 1 to 4 pm, 2510 Onion Creek Parkway, Austin, TX
78747.
We are grateful to our hospice nurses and caregivers. They are amazing people, doing God's
work -- angels here on earth!
