Sue 'Suzi' Loewenstern Sugarman, age 80, of Norman, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 15, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to the late Walter and Myrtle Herzstein Loewenstern. Suzi grew up in Houston and graduated from high school in 1962. For a short time, she attended the University of Miami, Florida, and then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she obtained both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education.

It was at OU that she met her husband, David Ben Sugarman. They were married on June 19, 1966, in Houston, Texas, and immediately settled in Norman. Suzi taught Special Education for several years and later assisted students with employment opportunities in the placement office at OU. She was also the Daycare Center Director at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church for several years.

Suzi loved art which led to her involvement with the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at OU where she served as President of the museum's membership association and served on the museum's Board of Visitors. She very much enjoyed making pottery. Suzi loved to travel to see and learn about new places. She was a great cook and always enjoyed visiting restaurants and trying new foods.

Suzi was deeply devoted to her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David B. Sugarman; her son, Bradley Sugarman and wife Lisa Tam of San Francisco, CA; two grandchildren, Max Sugarman and Simone Sugarman, both of San Fransico; three brothers, Walter Loewenstern of Los Angeles, CA, Richard Loewenstern and Norman Loewenstern, both of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Plans for a memorial for Suzi are pending.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Suzi to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at OU.
