Sue Elaine Zembower

Sue Elaine (Ansel) Zembower, 76, of Short Gap, passed away on September 10, 2025 at Lions Rehab Center.
Born March 15, 1949, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Ruth (Diehl) Ansel.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Steve Ansel, and her sister, Cheryl Ann Ansel.
Survivors include her daughter, Carla Loftus, and son-in-law, Mike Loftus; grandchildren Natalie Loftus and Finn Loftus; her brothers Joe Ansel and Jeffrey Ansel (Chris); her sister Sandy Mattingly (Mike); her sister-in-law Vicki Hardman; nephews Adam Ansel (Jen), Christopher Mattingly (Stefanie), and Jonathon Wiley (Jill), and nieces Ashley Bennett (Darwin), Jennifer Todd (Jared), and Heather Braithwaite (Adam).
Sue was a 1967 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She started her career at Cumberland Savings Bank. She briefly worked at Hill's Department Store and High's Convenience Store. The majority of her career was spent at FNB Bank in Romney, WV, retiring in 2017. Sue was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Short Gap, where she enjoyed volunteering with Women's Society. She also volunteered at Short Gap Elementary School and with the Frankfort High School Falcon Band.
An avid sports fan, Sue was always cheering for the Fort Hill Sentinels, Baltimore Orioles, and the Baltimore Ravens. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Daisey and Sugar. You could always find her on her porch swing or out in the sunshine reading a good book and enjoying a cup of tea. She also loved westerns, gardening, collecting angels, and vacationing at the beach. Her most cherished time was spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 5-7 PM. A private family service will be held, followed by interment at Hillcrest Burial Park. Pallbearers will include Joe Ansel, Jeffrey Ansel, Mike Mattingly, Christopher Mattingly, and Darwin Bennett.
The family appreciates the kind, compassionate care provided by the many doctors, nurses, and staff at the Lions Rehab Center and UPMC Western Maryland Hospital.
