Shyam "Sam" Iyer passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 81. He was born on January 24, 1944, in Mumbai, India, to Parameshwaran and Bhaghirathi Iyer.
Sam graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri with a Masters in chemical engineering, which led him to a devoted career at Albemarle Corporation as a chemical engineer.
Sam had a love of music and cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He took particular joy in playing with his grandchildren and participated actively in family gatherings, spending a lot of quality time with his brothers.
A regular at the YMCA, he embraced an active lifestyle that reflected his vibrant spirit. Additionally, he was known for his quiet wisdom, dry wit and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarita Evans (Darren); son, Suresh Iyer (Ramya); sisters-in-laws, Nina Iyer and Soni Iyer; his cherished grandchildren, Vikram Evans, Meena Evans, Anika Iyer, and Anya Iyer; and many nieces and nephews.
Shyam was preceded in death by his spouse of 39 years, Sita Iyer; his parents, Parameshwaran and Bhaghirathi Iyer; and his siblings, Janaki R. Sharma, Rami Iyer, and Mani Iyer.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home in Baton Rouge on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for immediate family.
