Susan Andrews Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 26, 2024.
Susan Elise (Murray) Andrews passed away surrounded by family on April 25, 2024. Her family will host a time of visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers followed by a celebration of Susan's life at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Trinity Church.
Susan was born on November 24, 1946, to Fred and Rosemae Murray. She was raised with her sister, Diane, in Houston, Texas. Susan was a happy and busy child, with a curious spirit, vivid imagination, and strong-willed approach to life. She attended Lamar High School where she made many lifelong friends. She was a cheerleader, twirler, and May Fete Queen (an honor given to the prettiest girl). After graduation, Susan moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech, where she was a Freshman Cheerleader and a member of Pi Beta Phi. Susan wanted to be closer to home, so she finished her education at the University of Texas. She loved being both a Longhorn and a Red Raider, though her allegiances fell squarely in the Red Raider camp when the two teams played one another (an opinion highly disputed by her son-in-law).
Susan began teaching school in Houston after graduating from UT. During this time, her aunt insisted she meet a "cute guy" who was the manager at Furr's Cafeteria. She reluctantly agreed, and met the love of her life, Randy. (She agreed he was a very cute guy.) They married on July 5, 1975, and moved to Lubbock in 1976. Susan and Randy raised three children, all of whom she loved with every inch of her heart. She filled their home with music and laughter, creating songs to go along with every task from picking up toys to teeth brushing. She tirelessly took care of her husband and family, along with every lost dog in the neighborhood. Susan found great joy in the company of her three grandchildren. Her love for her grandkids could only be matched by their devotion to their Mimsie.
Susan was a performer at heart and loved musical theater. In addition to performing in various community productions, one of her fondest memories and proudest accomplishments was directing and performing in "The Gospel According to Scrooge" at Trinity Church for many years. Among other things, Susan enjoyed traveling, fishing, ice skating, horses, and attending any activity involving her kids or grandkids.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Randy; sister, Diane Dickson (Chet); loving children, Christy McClendon (Trey), Gary Andrews (Joni), and Geoffrey Andrews; grandchildren, Tripp Andrews, Annelise Andrews, and Grayson Andrews; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rusty Andrews (Linda), Dwight Andrews (Sally), and Morris Wilkes (Kitty); many nieces and nephews, and her beloved golden retriever, Happy.
Susan fought a long-term neuromuscular illness fiercely and gracefully. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Linda Buchan and Ilda Engleman, her dedicated caregivers and friends, along with the many others who cared for and loved Susan over the past several years. The family would also like to thank Dr. Michael Phy for his loving support and gentle care for both Susan and her family.
