Susan J. Barnes, 74, Sturgeon Bay, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Green Bay Health Services with her family at her side. She was born December 31, 1950, in Wausau, WI to the late Robert and Ruth (Wolfe) Weden.
As a young girl her family moved to Medford, WI where Susan graduated from the Medford High School in 1969. In 1970 she moved to Milwaukee where she met Jeffrey Barnes and they were married April 8, 1972, back in Medford.
As a couple they lived in many cities before moving to Columbia, Missouri. Susan worked in the Ellis Library on the University of Missouri campus for 25 years. After she retired from there they moved to Sturgeon Bay and have lived there since 2018.
In 2005, Susan was in need of a kidney transplant due to PKD. Her sister-in-law Sue, was a match and because of Sue's loving gift, Susan was able to enjoy almost 20 years of dialysis-free life.
Susan is survived by her husband Jeff, two sons, Jason (Sarah) and Samuel (Katie); three grandsons Ian, Tyler and Caden; three sisters Gloria Lush, Lou Ann Weden and Kris (Mark) Harrison; brother-in-law Steve (Sue) Barnes and sister-in-law Brenda Obregon; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Krista and her parents, Robert and Ruth.
Family and friends may gather at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy, Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Peter Martin officiating. Burial at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Algoma.
Memorials may be made out to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation in memory of Susan Barnes.
