Susan Clouston Goebel Burkert, a vibrant spirit and cherished member of the Concord community, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 3, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on March 2, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Fred and Margaret (nee: Rancken) Clouston, Susan spent her life passionately dedicated to her family, her students, and the many hobbies she loved.
Susan's life was marked by her enduring commitment to nurturing others' growth and happiness, as evidenced by her admirable tenure as a Drill Team Coach at Riverside High School, where she inspired countless young individuals. Her zeal for mentoring extended beyond the field as she coached softball and taught swimming lessons. Susan also devoted many years to volunteering with the Girl Scout Council, shaping the lives of young girls with her wisdom and kindness.
Her adventurous spirit found joy in the outdoors, whether it was hiking, camping, or feeding the deer that visited her garden. Susan was an avid traveler who loved sewing, quilting, needlepoint, and especially canoeing. She was known driving around town in her distinct teal Jeep Wrangler. Known for her athleticism, she was often spotted enjoying the natural beauty that surrounded her.
Susan's legacy is lovingly carried on by her husband, Donald "Chuck" Burkert; her son, Robert (Tina) Goebel; her daughter, Christine (Russ) Willis; her step-children, Rachel (Jim) Messer, and Stephanie (Josh) Johnson; her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Autumn, Riley, Chad, Amanda, Iesha, Lansing; her adored great-granddaughters, Coralynn and Adalynn; and her brother, Donald (Pam) Clouston. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda (Clouston) Ries.
Susan's radiant energy and love for life will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, laughter, and an unquenchable zest for life that will continue to inspire generations to come.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4-6pm at Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm.
