Raymond James Adams, affectionately known as "Chewie" to his friends and family in Ohio, passed away on December 24, 2024, in Painesville, Ohio, at the age of 55 after a long illness. He was born on January 25, 1969, in Peekskill, New York, ending up in Kingston and Poughkeepsie NY. and finally in Painesville, OH
Chewie's professional life was spent in the hospitality industry, where he began his career as a cook and barback at The After Dark in Mentor and had included Spats and Spuddy's,
He had a major role in the Nightmare In Painesville haunted attractions from 1995 to about 1999. He met and made many lifetime friends there. Chewie was a member of the Lake Erie Dart League and loved showing off in pool leagues and singing Karaoke but his biggest achievement were his sons. He encouraged his sons to be themselves, to be truthful, kind and helpful.
He is survived by his beloved companion and caregiver and most of all best friend, Dawn Adams, his sons, Sean-Michael Adams, Shane Tracey (Bailey), Derrick Beyer, and Devin Adams; and a grandbaby on the way: brothers, Justin, Jeremy, Matthew, Luke, Paul, and Timothy Phlaum; and his mother, Shirley (nee: Adams) (Paul) Phlaum.
Chewie was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Doris and Fred Adams, Sr.
He will be acutely missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 6-8PM at Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Raymond, please visit our Tree Store.
