Swanton ~ Susan Marie Daignault (Pion) passed away May 9th, 2025, at UVM Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born December 7, 1957, in St Albans to Reo Joseph and Margaret (Peno) Pion.
Susan graduated from BFA St Albans in 1976.
She worked for the State of Vermont until she retired in 2010.
Susan was certainly one of a kind. She had a great sense of humor and could always make people laugh.
After retiring, she collected teacups and saucers and had an extensive collection. She also collected anything Wizard of Oz related. She also enjoyed tending to her roses and other plants in her front yard. She enjoyed playing online games including slots and of course Monopoly Go!
Susan was in fact the definition of Crazy Cat Lady. She fed and cared for many stray cats that would show up on her doorstep. Every spring there would be a new litter of kittens that appeared with their Momma. She slowly began having them fixed and bringing them into her home.
Susan is survived by her husband Kevin of Swanton. She leaves her son Brian Pion and his wife Maurissa of Berkshire, her daughter Aimee Major-Hawkins of Swanton, her brothers, Joe Pion and his wife Sharon, Michael Pion and his wife Diane and a sister Mary Mossey and her husband Brian all of St. Albans, as well as her grandchildren, Nicholas Pion and girlfriend Hillary Mitchell of Morrisville, Moriah Hawkins and her domestic partner Stephen Tomer of Blackstone, Virginia, and Shelby Hawkins and her boyfriend Andrew Brace, and a great grandson, Oliver Dale Brace all of Swanton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Susan shared a special relationship with her granddaughter Moriah, who she called Gramma Buns or Gbuns as a child.
She was predeceased by her parents Reo and Margaret Pion, her sister Carol Pion and her brothers David and Richard Pion and his wife Lori Girard-Pion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans followed by a 2:00 PM service with the Reverend Father Maurice J. Roy officiating. Prayers of committal and interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Cat Crusaders, P.O. Box 103, Enosburg Falls, Vermont 05450.
