Lady Susan Gwen Delay was born Susan Gwen McGilton in Fort Benning, Georgia, on May 12, 1947. After her father was discharged from the U.S. Army, her family settled in northwest Colorado where Susan grew up in Craig, surrounded by family. She married Charles Sanford Turner on May 15, 1965, and they had two children, Charles Shawn and Joni Suzanne. Later in life, she married Gerald Delay, with whom she spent the remaining 46 years of her life.
Susan died peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2025, surrounded by family.
Susan is survived by her two children, Shawn (Angie) Turner and Joni (Jesse) Walling; eight grandchildren: Shalise (Cody) Abbott, Colton (Keylee) Turner, Trevor Turner, Bailey (Lance) Young, Skyler Walling, Jayden Walling, Wyatt Walling, and Kameron Walling; three great granddaughters: Aleighse Abbott, Avaleigh Abbott, and Charlotte June Young; and one brother, Dennis McGilton. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be held in Craig, Colorado, at a later date.
