Susan "Sue" Jessica Field, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born on August 2, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan, Sue was the youngest of three children born to Stuart and Ellen (Piggott) Knickerbocker. She grew up with a natural curiosity about the world around her, a quality that would later shape her lifelong career in journalism and dedication to her community.

Sue graduated from Fenton High School in 1982 and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University in 1987. Her professional journey began at the Flint Area Newspaper, followed by The Reminder in St. Johns, where she not only sharpened her reporting skills but also met the love of her life, Matthew Field. Sue and Matthew were married on September 30, 1995, at the First Methodist Church in St. Johns, celebrating 30 years of marriage just days before her passing.

Her passion for storytelling and commitment to her community led her to The Morning Sun Newspaper (now Digital First Media), where she served as an investigative reporter for more than 27 years. Sue was known for her integrity, empathy, and tenacity, qualities that allowed her to "speak truth to power" while always keeping the heart of the community at the center of her work.

Outside of journalism, Sue was a woman of quiet joys and keen intellect. She loved crossword puzzles, mystery novels, and the companionship of her beloved pets, cats Ho Chi Minh ("Mini") and Foo, and held a lasting love for her poodle, Sheba, who preceded her in death. Her laughter, wit, and deep sense of compassion left an imprint on everyone who knew her.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Stuart and Ellen Knickerbocker, parents-in-law, Max and Harriet (Barker) Field; brothers-in-law John Field and Mark Field; and sister-in-law Dr. Carol Field. She is survived by her devoted husband, Matthew Field of Weidman, MI; brothers Matthew (Adrienne Thompson) Knickerbocker of Bethel, CT, and James (Linda) Knickerbocker of Lathrup Village, MI; nieces and nephews Alyssa Knickerbocker of Suquamish, WA, and Devin (Kristen Spitaletta) Knickerbocker of Seattle, WA; great-nieces and nephews Rowan Steele, Remy Steele, and Mari Knickerbocker of Suquamish, WA; stepdaughters Kelly Field of Washington, DC and Cheryl Field of Fowlerville, MI; and sister-in-law Becky (Ed) Wood of St. Johns, MI.

A celebration of Sue's life will be held at a later date, with private interment at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, Michigan.

Sue's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Toni and Trish House in Auburn, MI, for the exceptional care and kindness shown to her in her final weeks.
