Susan M. Fleming, (nee Simpson) affectionately known as Sue to her friends and family, passed away at her home in Gloucester Township, New Jersey, on August 9, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on December 28, 1951, in Camden, NJ, to the late Rose M. Simpson (nee DiRosa) and the late Warren F. Simpson, Sue's life was a tapestry of dedication to her loved ones, her work, and her community.
Sue's professional life was marked by over four decades of committed service to the Township of Gloucester. Her roles as Human Resources Supervisor, Payroll Supervisor, and Sub Registrar were a testament to her work ethic and her ability to connect with people. Even after retirement, the impact of her contributions remained a cornerstone of the community she served so diligently.
Family was the heart of Sue's world. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Fleming, Sr., and a nurturing mother to her children, Maryann M. Busa (Greg), Sharon Fleming, and Thomas E. Fleming, Jr. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Amanda, Adriana, Julia, Jessa, and Ryan, who will remember her as a doting grandmother who cherished every moment spent with them. Sue's sister, Maryann Simpson (the late Lou), along with numerous cousins and countless friends, will fondly recall her loving spirit and generous nature.
Sue's creativity shone brightly in her hobbies. An avid fan of the Philadelphia Mummers String bands, she shared her passion for music and performance with all who knew her. Her hands were rarely still, as she dabbled in sewing, making quilts, and crafting Halloween costumes that brought joy to her children. Her love for wood crafts and ceramics allowed her to express her artistic side, creating cherished keepsakes for her family and friends.
A member of the Stetser-LaMartine American Legion Post #281 Ladies Auxiliary, Sue's generosity extended beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of many in her community. Her enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports teams was infectious, whether cheering on the local baseball teams of her youth or rooting for her favorite professional teams. Sue's love for watching her favorite soap operas was matched only by her love for keeping in touch with her friends via telephone. Despite facing illnesses over the years, she took great pride in her ability to "get things done" over the phone, solving problems and offering support with just a call.
Sue's legacy is one of love, creativity, and generosity. Her unwavering support and the warmth of her presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on through the cherished memories she leaves behind.
Viewing for family and friends will be Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church St., Blackwood, NJ 08012. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Hope Parish/St. Agnes Church, 701 Little Gloucester Rd., Blackwood, with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery taking place after the Mass.
