Susan Lenart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
Susan Ann Lenart, 84, of Northbrook, Illinois, passed away on July 31, 2025. Born on April 10, 1941, in Glencoe, Illinois, to William and Jean Steffey (née Younglove), Sue lived a vibrant life filled with love, community, and entrepreneurial spirit. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John (Jack) Lenart.

Sue attended Marjorie Webster Art College and embarked on a dynamic career as an entrepreneur. She founded The Charming Charm Shop where she sold sterling silver charms and traveled nationwide to a variety of jewelry and craft shows where her natural creativity and passion for connecting with others shined through. Her professional success was matched by her dedication to community involvement. Sue was an active member of the Evanston Women's Club, her volleyball group, the garden club, and the Glenview Senior Center, where her warmth and enthusiasm left a lasting impact. For many years she hosted a Superbowl party with a chili cookoff at her home in Northbrook.

In 2022, Sue moved to Covenant Village, where she quickly became a cherished part of the community. Over her three years there, she delighted in nurturing old friendships and forging new ones. She was known to organize amazing birthday parties and as the dining representative for her building, she brought her signature charm to the role. Sue also loved her weekly dominoes, Canasta and Hand and Foot card games, which she enjoyed always displaying her characteristic wit.

Sue is survived by her devoted children, Kathryn Alm and Greg Alm (Debbie); her brother, Bill Steffey (Melanie); her sister, Mary Younglove (Len); and her cherished grandchildren, Jane Alm and Emma Alm. She also leaves behind her beloved stepchildren, John Lenart, Ann Cooper (Andrea), Karin Simmons (Bryan), and Kristina Jensen, as well as her treasured step-grandchildren, Christopher, Tobias, Mason, Aidan, and Dean. Sue's loyal companion, her dog Penny, remained by her side until the end, a testament to their unbreakable bond.

Per Sue's wishes, her family will gather at a later date to celebrate her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Covenant Living Benevolent Care Fund: https://covliving.org/contact-us/donation/, 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook, IL 60062.
