Susan Pickhardt passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2025, lovingly surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Clinton, Massachusetts, Susan made her home in Pittsford, NY for the past 48 years, where she built a life rooted in compassion, service, and deep connection to those in need.
A lifelong advocate for young people, Susan dedicated more than 35 years to secondary education as a highly respected guidance counselor in the Rochester area. With a BA in Psychology from Bard College and a Master's in Education from the University of Rochester, she brought wisdom, empathy, and unwavering support to those she served at Nazareth Academy and in the Victor and Greece public school systems. Her students and colleagues knew her as a mentor whose influence extended far beyond the walls of any school-changing lives with her kindness, insight, and belief in every child's potential.
Even after retirement, Susan remained a steadfast champion for education, volunteering her time and expertise within the Rochester City School District. Her commitment to equity and opportunity never wavered.
Susan was a faithful and devoted member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was a fierce and passionate advocate for equal rights and a voice for those too often unheard. But above all, Susan found her greatest joy in her family-especially in the laughter and love of her seven grandchildren. Whether gathering for beach reunions on Hilton Head Island or Asbury Park, she cherished every moment spent together.
Susan lived a life of purpose, principle, and profound love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Charles Pickhardt; her sister Mary (Harvey) LeSueur; her sons Steven (Janine) Pickhardt, Kevin (Sarah) Pickhardt, and Jonathan (Tito Andujar) Pickhardt; and her adored grandchildren Nathaniel, Charlie, Claire, Michael, Katherine, Matthew, and Kailey. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Morton and Margaret Jaquith; her brother Peter Jaquith; her daughter Deborah Pickhardt; and her son-in-law Vico Maldonado.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 1st from 4-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home, 2305 Monroe Avenue, Rochester. A Celebration of Life service will follow on Saturday, August 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2000 Highland Avenue, Rochester.
