Susan Marie (Horigan) Reed, age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at her residence in Brookville, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 28, 1948 to the late Francis & Jeannette (Eales) Horigan at their home on Route 121 North in New Paris, Ohio. Susan’s siblings were Sharon (Horigan) Oakley, Michael Horigan, Sandra “Sandy” (Horigan) Reed and Mark Horigan.
Susan graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1966 in New Paris, Ohio. After graduation, Susan attended Weaver Airline School in St. Louis, Missouri where she studied communications. She was trained in the operation of the teletype machine. This was the primary means of communication for the Air Lines. After returning home, Susan applied for employment at Beldin Wire and Cable in Richmond, Indiana and was hired as the Company Teletype Operator. She was responsible for communications between Belden Headquarters and the various departments at the Richmond plant. She retired from Belden in 2013 after more than 25 years of employment.
Susan met her future husband, Eddie Reed who had just returned from Vietnam and was employed at Beldon. They had their first date on October 19, 1967 and married on July 6, 1968.
Susan served on the C.R. Coblenz School board from 1990 to 1998. Susan also served as the board President. She was a devote Mother, Grandmother and awesome military wife.
Survived by her husband of 57 years, Eddie R. Reed; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry & David Gabert and Kimberly & Michael Pauley; granddaughters, Allison Gabert, Sydney & Mason Haskins, Mackenzie Pauley, Emily & Zack Smith; great granddaughter, Grace Suzanne Smith; brother, Mark Horigan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio. Interment will be held at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. prior to the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.
