Susan Thordsen Obituary

Susan Thordsen
Susan Mishk Thordsen, 67, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at White Plains Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Yonkers, New York, and spent most of her life in New York. In recent years, she followed the sunshine to Georgia, a place she dearly loved. She later spent cherished time living with her daughter in Norwalk, Connecticut, during the past four months.
Susan was the beloved mother of her daughter, Nicole (Tony), and the proud grandmother of Christopher and Giancarlo. She is also survived by her brothers, Charlie (Marcy) and Jimmy. She was predeceased by her mother, Barbara; her father, Charles; and her beloved aunt, Adele.
A lifelong professional in the insurance industry, Susan worked as a Commercial Lines Insurance Agent and Manager for Tooher & Ferraris in Wilton for many years, as well as in several similar roles over the course of her career. She was incredibly smart, dedicated, and deeply valued by the colleagues and clients who relied on her expertise. She truly loved her work and took pride in doing it well.
Inspired by her daughter, Susan also discovered a new passion later in life: creating natural soaps, lotions, and skin-care products. What began as a personal interest grew into a small business she nurtured over the past ten years, allowing her to share products she believed in with others - something that brought her joy, purpose, and pride.
Susan was amazing - kind, caring, nurturing, hardworking, and remarkably strong. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She also had a bit of a tough, opinionated side, one that came from resilience and experience, and she was deeply respected for it. Susan faced life's hardest challenges with courage and determination. She was a woman who beat cancer - cancer did not beat her - and she did it her way.
Creative and generous by nature, Susan was an avid crocheter who found joy in making blankets, hats, scarves, and baby clothes, especially for her grandchildren and those she loved. She also treasured the time she spent living in Italy, a period that created unforgettable memories and allowed her daughter the gift of a once-in-a-lifetime visit there to be with her. She also cherished the many friendships she formed throughout her life and stayed closely connected to friends for decades, keeping those relationships alive with love and loyalty. During the past four months, she especially loved and spoiled her grand-cat and grand-dog, Leia and Luna - whose genders she always lovingly mixed up - while they lived together, finding comfort and companionship in their presence.
Susan will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the deep love she had for her family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home in Stamford, Connecticut. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. In addition, donations may be made in Susan's memory to Good Dog Rescue, the wonderful rescue organization from which her beloved grand-dog, Luna, was adopted.
