Susan Grace Van Skiver, aged 76, passed away on September 26, 2024, in St. Augustine, Florida. Born on November 16, 1947 in Fairlawn New Jersey, Sue dedicated much of her life to serving others, a testament to her kind and compassionate nature.
Sue was a beacon of kindness and selflessness, deeply involved with her church, the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown, PA, and committed to helping others. Her career at IBM spanned several years, after which she pursued a nursing degree to further her capacity to care for people.
Sue's hobbies and volunteer work reflected her love for animals and community service. She was an avid volunteer at animal shelters, adopting and caring for older cats. She used her sewing skills to create and donate essential items for the elderly and underprivileged. She shared her love of sewing with her great niece, Madison. Additionally, she volunteered her time at the Elizabethtown Public Library, where she helped repair books.
She is survived by her beloved cat, Bobby, and a loving family that includes her nieces; Jennifer Van Skiver, Stephanie Mitchell and husband Dustin, nephews Jon Van Skiver Jr. and wife Kim, Peter Van Skiver and wife Kristen, brother Jon Van Skiver Sr. and wife Ellen, Sister-in-Law Claudia Cormier and husband Terry, Sister-in-Law Tracy Van Skiver and great-nieces; Madison Grace Van Skiver and Evelyn Van Skiver, great-nephews Jon Van Skiver III, Nick Van Skiver, Jacob and Cooper Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary (Ryan) Van Skiver, and her brother Steven Van Skiver.
She and her family express deep gratitude towards cherished friend Anne Hackett, Pastor Fa, Pastor Galen, Terry Young, Kayla Nemec, Shaun Roberts and the Elizabethtown Public Library for their support and kindness. Additionally, the compassionate care provided by Vitas Hospice, particularly Tara, Courtney, and Aimee, as well as the staff at Riverside Cottages during her final days, will always be remembered and cherished by her family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ, 247 S Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, in memory of Sue's life and legacy. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
